In 1987 an Irish research psychologist published what has now become known as ‘the first comprehensive theory of dreaming’. It was picked up by an English psychotherapist who was searching for a better understanding of depression. Depression and excessive dreaming (or time in REM sleep) are linked, and the theory shed vital new light on the issue. They collaborated for several years and in 2003 published their seminal text: ‘Human Givens – a new approach to emotional health and clear thinking’. I give an overview of the therapeutic approach here:

In retirement after many years in private practice and training other therapists, I am going through my files and making a selection of material that others may find interesting.
